Fiat 500L

The Fiat 500L is a larger model of the Fiat 500 hatchback.

Complaints listed by Consumer Reports ranged from problems with the car’s automatic transmission and dead batteries, to the replacement of a faulty engine and broken tie rods.

According to Fiat’s SA website, the 500L ranges between R259,900 for a 1.4 Pop Star and R319,900 for a 1.6 MultiJet Lounge.

Ford Fiesta

The Ford Fiesta’s problems ranged from transmissions that don’t shift properly, to overheating engines and fuel pump failures.

There are multiple models of the Fiesta available in South Africa – prices start at R198,900 for the 1.4 Ambiante, and go up to R276,900 for the Fiesta ST 3-Door.

Jeep Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee, made by Fiat Chrysler Automotive, suffered problems with its 9-speed automatic gearbox at launch.

The consumer survey reported keys which got stuck in ignitions and dead infotainment systems as problems owners experienced.

The Cherokee sells for between R523,990 and R668,990 in SA.

Nissan Pathfinder

The Pathfinder was the only Japanese car on the Reports’ list of least reliable cars for 2015.

The seven-passenger SUV suffered multiple problems with its CVT transmission, while the vehicle’s weatherstripping was also criticised.

Nissan SA does not advertise the Pathfinder on its website as a new vehicle for sale.

Chevy Suburban

The Chevy Suburban suffered from transfer cases that wouldn’t shift out of two-wheel drive, problems with the navigation system, interior panels coming loose, and unwanted movement from the front end.

Chevrolet SA does not advertise the Suburban on its new vehicles portal.
